Front End / Javascript Software Engineer

Los Angeles, California, United States Full-time

We are currently looking for a Mid-to-Senior Level Frontend / Javascript Software Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This is a great opportunity to work on a leading, very high-traffic site with staggering traffic (with over 40 million unique visits and 500 million pageviews a month), and we are also in the top 50 of all Internet websites in the United States. Don't take our word for it, check it out at https://www.quantcast.com/ranker.com.

Despite all this traffic, we do this with a small, talented team of dedicated software engineers who love working with interesting, complex projects. As part of the Frontend team, you’ll be building and optimizing front-end implementations of our desktop and mobile web applications. We use hand-coded vanilla Javascript, as we minimize the use of frameworks due to overhead considerations.

Want to be part of our Engineering Team? Here’s how you’ll know if you’re going to love this job:

First, what’s in it for you:

  • Work on very high-traffic platform in a collaborative team environment while solving unique challenges only seen on high-traffic sites
  • Very competitive compensation including meaningful equity in a profitable, mid-stage technology company
  • Fully-paid medical, plus heavily subsidized voluntary dental and vision plans
  • 10 paid holidays, plus additional days of paid time off per year
  • Very casual workplace with a fully stocked kitchen including free snacks, soda, Perrier, Mexican Coca Cola; we also do catered lunches and breakfast weekly, and free massages every other week
  • Located conveniently in the Mid-Wilshire district, minutes from Beverly Hills, Miracle Mile, and the 10 Freeway

Who we believe will do great in this role:

Besides the usual skill set for anyone claiming to be a Frontend Engineer (ie competency in Javascript, HTML, CSS), you’ll do well if you also have:

  • At least 1 year of actual commercial frontend software engineering experience (ie been paid to do this, as opposed to working on classroom or personal projects)
  • Extensive experience and knowledge working in hand-coded, standards-based, object-oriented Javascript (as opposed to using a framework)
  • Experience with REST APIs, social network APIs (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
  • A Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent academic background (although not a deal-breaker)

Bonus points if you have:

  • Work experience in an Internet startup, particularly in SEO-driven, ad-driven industries (ie online content, ad tech, social media, etc)
  • Expert knowledge and extensive experience in one or more of the following domains: HTML/CSS/Javascript, especially in a high-traffic environment
  • Mobile web experience
  • Experience with SVG, BEM
  • Experience working with Object Literal JavaScript and Ajax
  • Experience translating design heavy comps into markup only HTML and CSS

**SORRY, NO RECRUITERS**
