Founded in 2009, the company made a number of breakthroughs in the last 18 months which has led to explosive growth, now doing well over 100MM monthly visits / 50MM monthly unique visitors worldwide spending on average 5 minutes per visit – making Ranker one of the 3 biggest entertainment sites, and one of the top 30 sites in the US according to content. Our business is driven primarily by programmatic advertising and is profitable, and we are now expanding out into other revenue channels driven by our data and technology.

Head of Business Development – At a Glance

We’re looking for a performance driver to serve as our Head of Business Development. The ideal candidate for this role is seasoned in the end-to-end aspects of developing strategic partnerships, unlocking and defining new revenue channels and managing internal and partner relationships. In this role, you will lead domestic and international publisher development efforts, contribute to driving mission-critical KPI’s such as revenue, audience and brand awareness.

A whip-smart individual, passionate about digital media, and very well organized and adept at following up and getting to the right decision makers at other companies. You must be a self-starter who can synthesize a pitch and captivate an audience. You will be evaluated on your ability to close deals and deliver tangible value.

 

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Contribute to growth, planning, and development of new business channels for Ranker, including addressable market size, competitive research, and potential new market positioning.
  • Working with senior leadership on strategy and tactics
  • Deliver partnerships primarily within the digital media and entertainment verticals, with either/or KPIs of Brand Exposure, Traffic, and Revenue.
  • Serve as ambassador and evangelist of the Ranker brand.
  • Expand the Ranker brand into new channels, both offline and on (as a reference model, think of Rotten Tomatoes)

 

Here’s what you’ll need to be successful in this role:

  • 4-8 years experience in business development in digital media or digital media services, demonstrating consistent year over year achievement and measurable growth.
  • Superior written and verbal presentation skills. You have the ability to captivate an audience, control the conversation and define the narrative.
  • A deep network of relationships at top-tier publishers, digital distributors, and other companies in the digital media space. Contacts in the entertainment industry a big plus
  • A sound understanding of the digital media and publishing landscape, which includes monetization sources, ad tech, and platform technologies.
  • Diplomatic negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • A driving sense of urgency and the ability to push the needle without a vast arsenal of resources and support.
  • Strong Powerpoint and Excel skills
  • A proven track record of identifying potential business growth opportunities, developing strategic business plans and executing on the new opportunities in the online media, entertainment and publishing sectors.
