Audience Development Specialist - LA

Know a lot about a lot of things? Are you fanatical about pop culture? We are looking for dynamic, best-in-class talent to join the Ranker team as an Audience Specialist for our content marketing campaigns. As an Audience Specialist, you will lead the day-to-day stewarding, defining, and understanding of the target audiences and what those audiences look like for all things pop culture. The more in-depth knowledge you have about pop culture and general topics, and the kinds of people who are fans of these topics, the better. You must be someone who lives and breathes online as well as being adept with spreadsheets. This entry-level opportunity will kick-start your career in digital media and provide a platform to express your creativity.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with organic social and editorial teams on the development of paid social campaigns
  • Serve as a resource in terms of gathering and distributing audience insights
  • Use research tools to develop and steward the creation of target audiences with views into their social/online behaviors, media consumption, etc.
  • Maintain detailed files of all pertinent records (audience segments, performance reports, etc.)
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for interactive media/marketing with strong working knowledge of the Internet – being an active user/participant in social media a MUST.
  • Proactive ability to multi-task, strong written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational aptitude, attention to detail, and accuracy when working with numbers

What’s in it for you:

  • Have the chance to express your creativity in front of a very large audience (think 100K to well over a million people) in a company that really lets you run with YOUR ideas
  • Full-time position with a genuine career track. This isn't a freelance gig; it's a real job with real growth opportunities.
  • Very casual workplace (ie t-shirts and shorts are totally fine) with a fully stocked kitchen including free snacks, soda, Perrier, LaCroix, Mexican Coca-Cola; we also do catered lunches and breakfast weekly, and free massages every other week.
  • Located conveniently in the Mid-Wilshire district, minutes from Beverly Hills, Miracle Mile, and the 10 Freeway.

If this sounds exciting, here's what we need from you:

  • Since this isn’t a traditional job, just looking at your resume may or may not tell us much, and we would hate to ignore a good candidate who is perfect for this role but has been, for example, waiting tables or doing office admin. So feel free to send us anything about yourself to help prove to us that you have the right background - blog or social media posts, nerdy spreadsheets you keep for yourself, whatever. It doesn’t have to be fancy, we just need some sense of what you’re into and how deep you’re into it.
  • That said, provide a cover letter giving color/examples of how you meet and exceed the qualifications listed above. And yes, we are looking at your cover letter to get an idea of your writing style, so smart, funny letters really stand out.  This is required.  Applications without cover letters will not be reviewed.
  • Links to any social media properties you've helped program, particularly entertainment-focused channels. If you don’t have any social media programming experience, it’s not a dealbreaker for us, so don’t be afraid to apply anyway.
  • As we are a site with lists about literally everything, and we like people who know lots about lots of things, it is also super helpful if you list in your cover letter any areas of expertise you have, from the broad to granular.
